Daily Air Commits to Four Series 400 through CAVU Aviation Finance

Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore, February 17th, 2016: During the Singapore Air Show, CAVU Aviation Finance LLC is pleased to announce the long-term lease of four Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft to Taiwanese operator Daily Air Corporation. The four Viking manufactured Series 400 Twin Otters will be delivered during Q2 and Q3, 2016 and will replace three Do228s currently operated by Daily Air under a Taiwan government contract to provide essential air services to five offshore islands along the southern coast of Taiwan. The Twin Otter Series 400, with its excellent performance capabilities, was selected as the replacement because of the aircraft’s proven history of operational reliability and economics required for the restrictive operating conditions and short runways on several of the islands being serviced by Daily Air.

Daily Air has been operating the EAS routes since 2005, and their bid to renew their services contract with the Taiwan CAA for another ten years will be supported by CAVU and Viking Air Limited with provision of new aircraft, training, and spares support as the aircraft enter service later this year. Two of the four Series 400 aircraft were delivered to CAVU Aviation Finance in 2013 and 2015, and the remaining two will be delivered new from the Viking factory in June. These will be the first Series 400 Twin Otter aircraft operating in Taiwan.

Matthew Lorentzen, President of CAVU Aviation Finance LLC, said “We are pleased to support Daily Air in their successful bid to renew this essential service. The Twin Otter has an unparalleled record of success in this type of operation and Daily Air’s experience will ensure a smooth entry into service for the aircraft. We also appreciate the excellent pre- and post-delivery support from Viking Air Limited. As an original launch customer and leasing partner for the Twin Otter Series 400 program, we are proud to have placed eleven Series 400 Twin Otters into service with eight international customers since 2011. We look forward to continuing to support the growth of the Series 400 family with creative aircraft financing and acquisition solutions.”

Mark Kuo, President of Daily Air, said “Daily Air has operated the routes between Taiwan and the offshore islands for more than ten years, with 24 scheduled flights per day. After a three-year evaluation, Daily Air determined that the most appropriate aircraft type for the next ten years is the Twin Otter Series 400. The operation of the essential air service is an important part of the Taiwan Government’s policy to support the inhabitants living on the offshore islands. Daily Air is very honored to cooperate with the Government to provide more reliable and safer air transport service with an entirely new fleet for the offshore islands residents. Daily Air is also very happy to establish a long-term partnership with CAVU and Viking to further expand the Asian market for the Canadian-built Twin Otter Series 400.”

“We are always thrilled to introduce the Series 400 Twin Otter to new global markets,” stated Evan McCorry, Viking vice president International Sales & Marketing. “And the unique opportunity that working with CAVU Aviation Finance affords new customers, combined with Viking’s outstanding product support, ensures a win-win for all parties involved.”

The Twin Otter Series 400 on display at Viking Air’s Chalet (MSN874) during the Singapore Air Show will be one of the four aircraft leased to Daily Air by CAVU Aviation Finance.

Suffered an accident having occurred with N122PM sustaining substantial damage on 09-Apr-2016. The synopsis indicates the aircraft left the runway and collided with trees on landing at Fentress, TX. Other than shedding a portion of the port wing, the aircraft appears to remain relatively undamaged, at least on the surface. Although N122PM is among the oldest operational Twin Otters, I've seen many others with far worse damage return to service.

IKHANA Aircraft Services Delivers Second Vistaliner with RWMI DHC-6-300 ReLife Fuselage to Grand Canyon Airlines

IKHANA Aircraft Services (IKHANA) announces the delivery of a second DHC-6-300 Vistaliner Twin Otter aircraft modified with IKHANA’s RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Fuselage Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to Grand Canyon Airlines of Boulder, NV. IKHANA’s RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Fuselage is an FAA approved Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) providing NEW 66,000 hours/132,000 cycles of fatigue life to an otherwise life expired aircraft. “Maintaining aircraft values is what our RWMI Re-Life Fuselage STC was intended to do,” states Mr. John Zublin, President/CEO of IKHANA. “Since originally modifying the first Vistaliner in 1980, it is a remarkable event to have another aircraft depart our facility, essentially as a new aircraft.” Jake Tomlin, President of Grand Canyon Airlines states “Maintaining the safety of our DHC-6 Twin Otter Vistaliner fleet with IKHANA’s RWMI Re-Life Fuselage STC is a worthy investment. The value provided enhances our ability to keep Grand Canyon Airlines as the premier tour operator for years to come.”

The original DHC-6-100, -200, and -300 Series Twin Otters, produced from 1965 to 1988, have a fuselage fatigue life limit of 66,000 hours/132,000 cycles. The RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Fuselage STC, allowing NEW 66,000 hours/132,000 cycles of fatigue life, was awarded by the FAA in November of 2011 and is applicable to all of the DHC-6 Legacy Series Twin Otter airplanes. IKHANA’s predecessor, R.W. Martin Inc. modified the first DHC-6 Twin Otter into a Vistaliner in the mid 1980’s and has modified over forty (40) Twin Otters as Vistaliners. IKHANA has been a key provider of enhancements for the worldwide DHC-6 Twin Otter fleet with products including the RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Wing Box™, RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Fuselage™, RWMI DHC-6 ReLife Flight Controls™, RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Nacelles™, enhanced air conditioning, upgraded avionics, VIP amenities, cargo handling, camera hatches, and integration of surveillance/patrol systems. IKHANA’s modifications support a variety of customers in executive transport, regional/commuter airlines, and special missions operations.

IKHANA Aircraft Services Begins Flight Testing Phase for DHC-6-300HG™ 14,000 lbs. MTOW Standard Commuter Category STC

IKHANA Aircraft Services (IKHANA) announces that a company testbed aircraft is currently being readied for the flight testing phase of IKHANA’s RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ Standard Commuter Category Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). The RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ modification will allow operations to 14,000 lbs. (6350 Kg) Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW). “We expect to be flying the conformed aircraft within the next few weeks,” states Mr. John Zublin, President/CEO of IKHANA. “The flight testing phase of the program is essentially the last major gate in the STC process and we remain on track for expected STC issuance by the end of 2016.”

The original DHC-6-300 Twin Otter series aircraft were delivered with a 12,500 lbs. (5670 Kg) MTOW capability. Incorporating IKHANA’s RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ STC provides an increase in the utility and functionality of the aircraft with nearly 1,500 lbs. of additional payload. The modifications require an upgrade to Pratt & Whitney-Canada PT6A-34 engines, installation of Raisbeck swept four-bladed turbofan propellers, structural, aerodynamic, and systems modifications. The upgrade will be packaged so that it can be accomplished at a customer’s maintenance facility.

Viking Signs Twin Otter Series 400 Multiple Aircraft Purchase Agreement with Tara Air of Nepal

Viking Air Limited of Victoria, British Columbia, and Tara Air of Kathmandu, Nepal, have signed a multi-aircraft purchase agreement for three Viking Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft to be delivered between September 2016 and early 2017.

The three Series 400 Twin Otters will be delivered in regional commuter configuration and will be added to Tara Air’s existing fleet of Series 400 and legacy Twin Otter aircraft as part of their expansion plan to offer the widest passenger connectivity to the remote rural regions of Nepal.

Tara Air selected the Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft due to the modifications incorporated in the new aircraft that vastly improve safety for operations in the mountainous regions of the country.

“To have Tara Air return to Viking to purchase additional Series 400 Twin Otters is a testament to the quality of the aircraft and its ability to reliably operate in the remote regions of Nepal,” commented Peter Walker, Viking’s regional sales director for Africa, the Middle East and Asia. He added, “Operating aircraft in Nepal poses a challenge due to the extreme conditions in which the aircraft must perform, so to have Tara Air select the Series 400 to expand their fleet just goes to show it’s the best aircraft for the job.”

302 - DHC-6-300 9N-ABB Royal Nepal Airlines, Kathmandu

Updating a report from 20-May-2016 regarding DHC-6-300 MSN 302 9N-ABB; the wreckage of the historically significant airframe was sold by Nepal Airlines Corporation to the BP Museum for the price of $1.00 USD. The sale was arranged via McLarens Aviation on 25-Apr-2016.

The significance of this particular aircraft is that it was not only the first hijacking in Nepal, but it also set in motion a political change in the country. The scheme was masterminded by Girija Prasad Koirala, who later became the country's Prime Minister. The cash looted from an onboard bank transfer of 3 million Rupees (roughly $57,000Cad) was used to to finance an armed revolution to restore a multi-party democracy in the country.

The state of the aircraft below is not as a result of the 10-Jun-1973 hijacking (it went on to serve NAC for 40+ years after) but rather an accident that occurred on 16-Feb-2014.

IKHANA DHC-6-300HG™ Begins Flight Testing Phase

IKHANA Aircraft Services (IKHANA) announced FAA airworthiness certification and the first flight of Twin Otter Series 300, N808RT, modified to 14,000 lbs. MTOW as an FAA Certified flight test aircraft in support of IKHANA’s RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ Standard Commuter Category Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) program. “At this early stage, all indications show we are going to turn a great airplane into an exceptional one.” states Mr. John A. Zublin, President and CEO of IKHANA, “The flight test pilots were extremely happy with the DHC-6-300HG™ performance, especially the added horsepower and quietness of the four bladed propellers. Our next steps will validate the 14,000 MTOW to the rigorous FAA regulations to provide operators increased payload and the opportunity for increased revenues.”

The RWMI DHC-6-300HG™ STC increases the payload capabilities of the basic DHC-6-300 and, potentially, DHC-6-400 Twin Otter Series aircraft from 12,500 lbs. (5670 Kg) to 14,000 lbs. (6350 Kg) MTOW. As a Standard Commuter Category STC, DHC-6 Series 300 and, possibly Series 400, aircraft will be approved to operate in revenue service without special purpose restrictions. IKHANA’s current RWMI DHC-6-300RG™/-400RG™ STC is limited to special missions operations, constraining operators from carrying passengers for revenue service.

IKHANA has been a key provider of enhancements for the worldwide DHC-6 Twin Otter fleet with products including the RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Wing Box™, RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Fuselage™, RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Flight Controls™, RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Nacelles™, RWMI DHC-6-200HG™ (allowing DHC-6- 100 and 200 series to operate at 12,500 lbs.), enhanced air conditioning, upgraded avionics, VIP amenities, cargo handling, camera hatches, and integration of surveillance/patrol systems. IKHANA’s modifications support a variety of customers in executive transport, regional/commuter airlines, and special missions operations.

Viking Sells Twin Otter Series 400 to Government of Panama’s Servicio Nacional Aeronaval (SENAN) Air Group

Orlando, Florida, November 1st , 2016: Viking Air Limited of Victoria, British Columbia has sold its first Series 400 Twin Otter to the government of Panama for use by its Servicio Nacional Aeronaval (SENAN) Air Group based in Cocoli, Panama. The aircraft is scheduled for delivery in the coming weeks, and will be utilized to support the agency’s humanitarian aid missions throughout the country.

The Series 400 will be the first Twin Otter to be introduced to SENAN’s operational fleet, and will be integral to the successful development of services the agency provides to the Panamanian population.

David Caporali, Viking’s regional sales director for Latin America, commented, “SENAN is excited to be adding the Series 400 Twin Otter to their operational capacity, where its performance and amazing versatility will be put to good use on the many short-field airstrips common in the region.”

About SENAN: The Servicio Nacional Aeronaval (SENAN) Air Group is responsible for indoctrination, training, coordination and monitoring air operations for compliance with the State’s mission to protect life, honor, property and other rights and freedoms of individuals within the Republic of Panama. Viking Twin Otter Series 400 Receives Type Certification in Brazil

Orlando, Florida, November 1st, 2016: Viking Air Limited of Victoria, BC, Canada has now received Type Certification for the Series 400 Twin Otter in Brazil, adding to the list of twenty-nine countries now recognizing the type worldwide. The Certification was granted by Brazilian civil aviation authority ANAC (Agencia Nacional de Aviacao Civil) in October 2016, and will help pave the way for the first ever Twin Otter to enter the Brazilian market.

With the recent focus by Brazil’s government to develop policies that foster regional air transport links to remote locations throughout the country, certification of the Twin Otter Series 400 by ANAC is an integral factor in moving forward within the rapidly expanding Brazilian market.

“The Series 400 Twin Otter is the perfect solution for the remote areas of Brazil as it can provide essential air transportation to areas lacking infrastructure development,” said David Caporali, Viking’s regional sales director for Latin America. “The Series 400 platform is ideally suited for the harsh operating conditions that Brazil presents, and we are confident it will prove itself to be the aircraft of choice for commercial and government operations alike.”

Viking Enters into Comprehensive Multi-Year Support Contract with the Peru Air Force for Series 400 Twin Otter Aircraft

Orlando, Florida, November 2nd, 2016: Viking Air Limited of Victoria, British Columbia, and the Fuerza Aerea del Peru (FAP) have entered into a multi-year contract for the comprehensive support of twelve Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft operated by the FAP in the Amazonian region of north-east Peru.

Modeled after similar OEM fleet support programs, the objective of the contract is to streamline the spare parts procurement process, obtain seamless technical support, and maximize the utilization of their fleet of twelve Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft.

The contract will commence in the coming weeks and provides the FAP with a continuous flow of spare parts, on-site technical support, “Performance-Based Logistics (PBL)” parts and overhaul services associated with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and supply of initial provisioning spare parts and equipment required to support the fleet of twelve aircraft.

A key component of the contract, the PBL program was specifically developed to provide the FAP with budget predictability, a simplified and expedient parts ordering process, up-to-date technical publications, and all the necessary tools required to monitor upcoming maintenance events. The program also provides coverage for parts and overhaul services associated with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events for the airframe systems, avionics, and propellers.

“As the OEM, Viking is ideally positioned to provide the Peru Air Force with the essential parts supply and technical expertise required to maximize utilization of their Series 400 fleet,” commented Michael Hall, Viking’s director of Global Customer Support. “The FAP’s implementation of such an allencompassing support contract is a progressive step towards ensuring the longevity of their fleet, and Viking is proud to be part of their continued success.”

The FAP’s twelve Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft purchase is Viking’s largest single-customer order to date. The aircraft were configured with both land gear and floats to support various missions in remote areas of Peru, and were delivered between 2011 and 2014.

Viking Sells 2nd Series 400 Twin Otter to Caverton Helicopters of Nigeria

Orlando, Florida, November 2nd, 2016: Viking Air Limited of Victoria, British Columbia, and Caverton Helicopters, based in Lagos, Nigeria, have signed an agreement for the purchase of a second Series 400 Twin Otter aircraft to add to Caverton’s existing fleet currently operating in western Africa.

Caverton’s second Twin Otter Series 400 is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2017, and will provide essential services in support of the company’s contract with the Cameroon Oil Transportation Company (COTCO), a specialized joint venture created between Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Petronas, and the governments of Chad and Cameroon.

Under the contract, Caverton Helicopters will utilize the Series 400 Twin Otter for onshore pipeline surveillance and passenger transfer services for COTCO along the 1,070-kilometer underground pipeline route between the Doba oil fields in Chad to the offshore export terminal in Cameroon.

“To have Caverton return to Viking to purchase a second Twin Otter Series 400 is a testament to the quality of the aircraft and suitability for use in the harsh operating conditions of western Africa,” said Peter Walker, Viking regional sales director, Africa, Middle East & Asia Pacific. He added, “After seeing four years of successful service from their first Viking aircraft, Caverton’s confidence in the Series 400’s ability to reliably operate has afforded them the opportunity to participate in such an important contract.”

AeroGeo and SKOL to operate Rosneft’s Twin Otters

Russian oil company Rosneft will split its order for DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft between two local operators. Five out of 10 aircraft purchased by RN-Aircraft, Rosneft’s aviation division, will be operated by SKOL, a private operator registered in Surgut. It has an affiliate office in Krasnoyarsk, where the aircraft are based. The remaining five aircraft will be operated by Krasnoyarsk-based AeroGeo, which was responsible for the acceptance and ferrying of the aircraft.

In mid-October AeroGeo delivered to Krasnoyarsk the eighth of the ten aircraft ordered by Rosneft in August 2015.

At the moment Rosneft is transferring three DHC-6s to SKOL. Later on, when the final two aircraft of the batch reach Russia, they will also be added to SKOL’s fleet. All of these aircraft will be based on Cheremshanka airport, 2 km from Krasnoyarsk’s main airport Yemelyanovo.

SKOL was one of the candidates to perform the aircraft acceptance procedures, however AeroGeo’s offer was more competitive and won RN-Aircraft’s tender.

“We’ve got the flight crews and the technicians in place to start operating the aircraft. At the moment we are initiating procedures for registering the new type with our Air Operator Certificate. So we are gearing up to start operations and count on the launch before the end of the year,” the SKOL representative told Russian Aviation Insider.

According to Federal Air Transport Agency, SKOL currently operates Airbus Helicopters AS350 B3, Mi-171, Mi-8Т/АМТ, Mi-26Т helicopters and Cessna 208B Grand Caravan and YaK-40 airplanes.

The remaining five DHC-6 aircraft will be operated by AeroGeo from its base in Krasnoyarsk-Severny airport. Just one DHC-6 is currently registered in the operator’s AOC. “Rosneft hasn’t yet come up with the idea how to use this aircraft, and AeroGeo is not authorized to use it in third party interests without coordinating it with the owner. So the aircraft is just basically sitting there,” an industry source told Russian Aviation Insider. No comment was available from the operator.

SKOL is to become the fourth operator of Twin Otters, after AeroGeo (May 2016), Aurora (2014) and ChukotAvia (end of 2012).

Skybus Upgrades Twin Otter Fleet With New Livery & Interior Refresh

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company is making a £530,000 investment in its Skybus fleet of aircraft to include new interiors, enhanced navigation systems and an eye-catching new livery. Six of the eight-strong fleet will be fitted with brand new interiors including all new trim, carpets and soundproofing in time for the start of the busy holiday season next Easter.Five of the fleet will be entirely repainted, which means stripping the aircraft back to bare metal, while all eight aircraft will be decorated with a new red, white and blue tail fin design.

The upgrades are being carried out between now and next April. This is when the fleet normally undergoes annual maintenance, which takes around four weeks for each aircraft and is phased so there is no disruption to services. The Skybus fleet has also been fitted with new satellite landing technology called EGNOS which is like satnav for aircraft and will improve operational resilience during times of poor weather.

Rob Goldsmith, chief executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, said: “This is a major investment by the company in improving passenger comfort and operational resilience. “With five of the fleet due to be repainted we have also taken the opportunity to refresh the appearance of the aircraft with a bright new livery. Our first repainted and upgraded Twin Otter has just returned and more aircraft will follow in the coming months.”

Steamship Group Chairman, Andrew May, added: ‘Our strategic goal is to improve the scheduled transport links with the islands, by both sea and air, over the long term. By this we mean transport links which meet the demands and requirements of our passengers and customers, such that our services are reliable, resilient, of high quality and affordable.’

Over the last five years the Steamship Company has invested £12.5 million in strengthening transport links to the Isles of Scilly, including the acquisition of an eighth Skybus aircraft and most recently a new freight ship, the Mali Rose.

The Skybus fleet is made up of four 19-seater DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft and four eight-seater BN2 Islander aircraft.
